Mottaki urges boost in ECO cultural cooperation

Tehran, March 11, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here on Wednesday called for further promotion of cultural cooperation among ECO member states.
He made the remarks while addressing the 10th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization which kicked off in the Iranian capital of Tehran this morning.
He regretted that despite various commonalities shared by the ECO member states, the existing cultural cooperation among them is not at an appropriate level.
Mottaki, who was addressing the summit following the remarks made by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, briefed the audience on the outcome of the 18th ECO foreign ministerial meeting which started work in Tehran on Monday morning.
He then urged the ECO member countries to adopt new strategies for expansion of all-out cooperation, particularly in the area of culture.
During this morning session of the ECO Summit, the Iranian president was officially introduced as the chairman of the organization by the former rotating head of ECO, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.
Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the ECO member states.
The summit is to review the world’s financial crisis and ways to face the economic challenges to accelerate the implementation of agreements between ECO member states and fighting drug trafficking./end
