Islamabad, March 9, IRNA – President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari said on Monday that Islamabad would go on with the multi-billion Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) pipeline project and would discuss the issue in his talks with Iranian leaders during his upcoming visit to Tehran.
President Zardari leaves for Tehran on Tuesday to represent Pakistan in the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization which is to be held in Iranian capital on Wednesday.
Speaking to IRNA in an exclusive interview, President Zardari said that his government is committed to the IPI project and that he had discussed the issue last year when he met with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He said that Pakistan would pursue the project even if without India's participation.
"We have proposed that even if the third party (India) does not come in to this relationship, we should do it on our own. Pakistan and Iran should do this project on their own," stressed the Pakistani president.
