UN envoy to Afghanistan in Tehran to attend ECO meeting

Kabul, March 9, IRNA – UN Special Representative to Afghanistan Kai Eide, currenly in Tehran, left Kabul Sunday evening to attend the ECO meeting to open in Tehran Monday.
His visit to Tehran aims at boosting regional cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan. He is to deliver a speech at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) meeting too.
ECO members comprise of Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Eide is also due to hold talks with Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki and a number of senior Iranian officials.
He is given the mission to support regional cooperation towards ensuring a stable Afghanistan./end
