Turkish FM due in Tehran

Ankara, March 8, IRNA – Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan is to arrive in Iran late Sunday to take part in the 18th meeting of Foreign Ministers Council of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

He will also participate in the 10th summit of ECO leaders along with Turkish President Abdullah Gul on March 11.

A statement by Turkish Foreign Ministry, a copy of which was made available to IRNA, said that ECO was founded by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan in 1985 and its members reached 10 in 1992 after Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan joined it.

Turkey, as a founding member of the organization, attaches importance to its activities and considers it a main platform to promote stability and welfare as well as multilateral cooperation in the region.

Babacan is scheduled to hold talks with his counterparts during his stay in the country./end
