Vietnam tops list of foreign investors in Laos

Hanoi (VNA) - With total investment of 87.7 million USD in Laos , Vietnam
was the leader in foreign investment in the country for the first quarter of the
2009 fiscal year (October 2008-October 2009).

According to latest figures from the Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment,
Vietnam maintained its position as the top investor in Laos from last year.
It is followed by Thailand with 48.8 million USD and China with 9.2 million
USD.

Since 2001, Laos has attracted 1,173 projects valued at nearly 7.1 billion USD
from 36 countries and territories around the world. Among top investors, Thailand
leads with 207 projects worth 1.58 billion USD, followed by China and Vietnam

Investment projects in the country are primarily focused on energy, agriculture
