Rodong Sinmun Calls for Development of South-South Cooperation

Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Thursday says in an article that the socio-economic progress and development of the developing countries are markedly restrained under the outdated international economic order established by the imperialists for their interests. The article goes on: The way out to achieve the economic revival and national prosperity of the developing countries is to establish a new and fair international economic order after destroying the old and unequal one. The best way is for the developing countries to expand and develop South-South cooperation. The South-South cooperation is a genuine cooperative relationship among the developing countries as it is based on the shared desire to advance along the road of independence and self-reliance free from the neo-colonial domination and plunder by the imperialists. To realize the South-South cooperation is an important way for each developing country to enhance its position and role as a sovereign state in the international arena. Only when they achieve the economic independence through collective self-reliance, can the developing countries consolidate the already gained political independence and maintain sovereignty. And it is possible to provide the powerful self-defensive military capability to cope with the interference of foreign forces. At present, South-South cooperation is going in a many-sided, wide-ranging and deep way. It is the trend of the times that the South-South cooperation is conducted not spontaneously but purposefully and consciously through regional and continental organizations. The developing countries have urgent interests in the South-South cooperation and are striving for its further development to carve out future jointly.
