Australia off to Davis Cup flyer
Lleyton Hewitt made short work of Australia's opening Davis Cup Asia-Oceania playoff
rubber against Thailand, downing world No.891 Kittipong Wachiramanowong 6-3 6-2 6-1
in Bangkok on Friday.
Hewitt bounded into gear after dropping his serve in the opening game of the match,
dispatching the lowly-ranked Thai in one hour and 23 minutes.
"Because I had never seen him play before it was always going to take me a couple of
games to work out his strengths and weaknesses," Hewitt said.
"Once I got that under control I felt I could dictate the match."
Hewitt broke Wachiramanowong in the fourth and sixth games of the first to rally to
5-3 before closing out the set in 27 minutes.
The world No.72 was untroubled in the next two, winning the second set in 28 minutes
and charging out to a 4-0 lead in the third in sapping Bangkok heat.
"My focus now and tomorrow is to prepare for a live rubber on Sunday," Hewitt said.
"Every time I go out on to the court for a Davis Cup there is always pressure, the
pressure of my playing for my country."
