THAI to leave Don Mueang end of March

BANGKOK, March 6 (TNA) - Thailand’s national flag carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) will stop using Don Mueang airport and operate all flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport as of the end of this month, acting THAI president Narongsak Sangkhapong said Friday.

Under the single-airport policy, THAI aircraft will no longer use Don Mueang from March 29. The carrier said it would inform the public regarding the move by March 15 to prevent confusion among passengers over the relocation of flights.

The airline's ground equipment at Don Mueang will be removed beginning next Friday and only chartered flights will continue to use the airport, he said.

Ending the use of Don Mueang by THAI was expected tol save the state-owned company an estimated Bt600 million in salaries and operational overhead costs annually.

Air Chief Marshal Narongsak said THAI could still use Don Mueang in case of an emergency landing need. (TNA)
