Laos accelerates border demarcation project

Vientiane (VNA) - The Laotian Foreign Ministry on March 3 held a conference discussing plans to upgrade and build milestones along the border with Vietnam.


The conference was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun
Sisoulith.
The Deputy PM asked relevant agencies and localities on the Vietnam-Laos border to
increase cooperation with their Vietnamese counterparts to ensure the progress and
quality of the project.

As per the plan approved at the 2008 annual conference between the two border
committees of Laos and Vietnam , the project will be completed in four years
and include 826 markers.

On September 5, 2008, Deputy PM Thongloun Sisoulith and his Vietnamese counterpart
Pham Gia Khiem oversaw the project launching ceremony commemorating the construction
of Milestone No. 605 at the Sarvane-Lao Bao international border gate.-Enditem
