HCM City police cracks down on foreign criminals

HCM City (VNA) - Ho Chi Minh City 's police force on March 3 inspected a house
in the city's Thu Duc district and discovered 40 Nigerians who were found to have
broken a number of laws, from possessing no personal documentation and using forged
passports, to overstaying their temporary residence visas.

The violators, who share the house with 20 other Nigerians, were detained and will
be expelled from the country, according to HCM City police.

This investigation was part of a crackdown by the municipal police on the number of
foreign criminals in the city.

According to the police, foreigners, mostly African males, have recently been
observed loitering in groups and conducting trade in public areas, parks and on
street pavements, with some even committing criminal acts and causing public
disorder in the city.

To deal with this emerging social problem, HCM City authorities issued guidelines
regarding a reinforcement of State management over the entry, residence and working
status of foreigners in the city.

The municipal authorities have ordered the police to intensify inspections and
impose strict punishment on foreigners who illegally enter Vietnam , stay without
officially declaring their residences, or gather and make their homes in public
gardens and public sites.-Enditem
