Rare primate saved from dinner table




Quang Ngai (VNA) - Central Quang Ngai rangers on March 3 handed over a rare
grey-shanked douc langur to the Cuc Phuong National Park 's Rescue Centre
after rescuing it from a group of youths who were intending to eat it.

According to Timor GeBuer, a wildlife rescue expert at the centre, grey-shanked douc
langurs, whose scientific name is pyphathrix cinerea , is classified as a
critically endangered species in Vietnam 's Red Book.

This rescued langur, which weighs 6 kg, will be given a new, safe home in Cuc Phuong
