Yemen supports international efforts to promote human rights, says minister

GENEVA, March 02 (Saba)- Minister of Human rights Huda al-Baan
affirmed on Monday support of Yemen for international efforts to
promote human rights and peace in the world.

In her speech to the 10th round of the human rights council which is
being held in Geneva, al-Ban said that since 1990, Yemen has
witnessed a notable progress due to the political and economic
trends which enhance commitments of the government towards human
rights and freedom of citizens.

She pointed out to the Yemeni constitution, which insures rights of
citizens to take part in the political, economic and cultural life,
saying that the state practiced a positive role to encourage the
civil society organizations, especially in fields of social care and
combating poverty as well as improving local development and
respecting human rights.

The minister also pointed out to the progress in giving a chance for
woman to take her role in decision making and political life, saying
that the country witnessed progress in fields of education, health
and democracy.

She also reviewed agreements, which have been ratified by the
country to confirm its commitment with respect for human rights.

The minister asked from the international community to support the
Palestinian people and offer all kinds of assistance, calling on the
council to practice pressure on Israeli to make an end for its
violations against human rights in Palestine.

The minister concluded her speech by confirming the commitment of
Yemen with all international conventions related to improve human
rights and freedom.
