TOKYO, March 2 Kyodo - Nissan Motor Co. and the Portuguese government have agreed to study the establishment of a plant in Portugal to produce lithium-ion batteries to be installed in electric vehicles, the Japanese automaker said Monday.

the batteries.
Nissan, in a joint venture with the NEC Corp. group, plans to start producing
lithium-ion batteries at Nissan's Zama factory in Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture, by
March 2010 and to produce electric vehicles at its Oppama factory in Yokosuka
