Sydney `scaffold` street remains closed

Partially collapsed scaffolding at a Sydney construction site won't be fully removed
until Wednesday, the building company in charge of the site says.
Commuters can expect more delays in the CBD due to the buckled scaffolding, which
has closed a section of Castlereagh Street since Thursday.
The street remains closed to motorists between Market and Park streets, but 80 per
cent of the surrounding footpaths on the affected area of Castlereagh Street have
been reopened.
"Work has been carried out over the past 48 hours on the small section of affected
scaffold and it is now perfectly secure," Built managing director Marco Rossi said.
He said the scaffolding would be completely removed by Wednesday.
"We are currently in the process of dismantling the scaffold and anticipate it will
be completed within the next 36 hours," Mr Rossi said at midday (AEDT) on Monday.
Sydney City Council said it would have to wait for confirmation from police about
when they can reopen the street to vehicles.
Police refused to speculate on when that would be but said it would be reopened as
soon as it is safe.
Officers patrolling the site said they were scheduled to remain there until Thursday
night.
More than 100 construction workers ran for their lives when the 20-metre-high
scaffolding buckled above Castlereagh Street on Thursday.
Built issued a statement on Friday apologising for the inconvenience.
