Bajil Cement Plant Expansion soon

SANA'A, March 01 (Saba) - Expansion of the Bajil Cement Plant is to
start mid March after disagreements with the company to implement
expansion works were settled, the Yemen Cement Industry Corporation
has said.

The project aims to raise the capacity of the factory to 1.2 million
ton a year.

The corporation has agreed with a Chinese Company to carry out the
plant expansion at a cost agreed earlier estimated at $ 113 million,
deputy director of the corporation Muhammad Shnieve said.

The drop in the prices of basic materials such as iron globally
convinced the Chinese company to stop seeking more than the sum to
implement the project, Shnieve said.

The corporation also plans to establish a stone coal unit instead of
mazut with the aim to start using stone coal to produce cement and
to reduce production costs, he said, pointing out that the stone
coal will lower the costs of cement production by 60%.

The corporation will generalize the use of stone coal at all Yemen
cement plants, a move which is expected to help the corporation
avoid problems associated with the use of mazut which is expensive
and sometimes not available, he added.

The first phase of the stone coal unit would be implemented at the
Bajil Cement Plant at a cost of $ 16 million, he said.
