Foreign Minister Receives The Head Of UN Mission In Iraq

Baghdad, Iraq (NINA) - Iraq is determined to promote dialogue and political and diplomatic coordination among the countries of the region, Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jaafari said.
"Jaafari met today with the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq, Jan Kubic, and the meeting reviewed the overall security and political developments in the Iraqi arena and the international support provided to Iraq and preparations for the upcoming election," Jaafari's press office said.
Al-Jaafari stressed that "Iraq's victories in the war against terrorism have been achieved by the efforts of its people and the support of the United Nations and international organizations and friendly countries." He stressed that "Iraq is determined to establish security and stability and promote dialogue and political and diplomatic coordination among the countries of the region."
He pointed out that "the task of reconstruction is not less important and responsible than the task of fighting terrorism and we are still looking to increase international support for Iraq."
He added that "the elections are one of the stations of the democratic process and its success contributes to building Iraq and pushing the political process forward," noting that "the role of the United Nations in the success of the elections is important to overcome past mistakes."
He praised the United Nations' support for Iraq in various fields and mobilizing the international support for Iraq.
For his part, the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jan Kubic, confirmed that "The Security Council considers that Iraq is the shining light of the region for the great victories achieved against Daesh terrorist gangs and the sacrifices made by the Iraqis in their war against terrorism," noting that "the United Nations is Continuing to implement its commitments to support Iraq in reconstruction, development and economy.
