Abu Dhabi teams score well in Monte Carlo Rally

GAP, France, 29th January 2018 (WAM) -- The Citroen Total Abu Dhabi team performed well in the fourth and final leg of this year's Monte Carlo Rally, with Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle snatching fourth place as they took maximum points on the Power Stage. It was the very first such win of their C3 WRC's career. Craig Breen and Scott Martin set the third fastest time on their second run over the legendary Col de Turini, finishing ninth overall. Citroën Total Abu Dhabi are in third position in the manufacturers' championship while Kris Meeke lies fourth in the drivers' standings, according to a race report.
Peaking at just over 1,600 metres above sea level, the Col de Turini is one of the highlights of the event. The excitement surrounding this stage owes much to the atmosphere created by the large numbers of fans that line the roads and the invariably unpredictable weather.
The fourth place for Kris Meeke meant he put seventeen points on the board in the drivers' standings and therefore made a good start to the season, whilst Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT scored eighteen points to end this opening round of the FIA World Rally Championship in third place in the manufacturers' championship.
"It was the hardest Monte Carlo that I have ever experienced," Meeke said. "We had everything: sheer ice on slick tyres on Thursday evening, rain on Friday, snow on Saturday and frost on the Col de Turini (yesterday). I'm surprised to finish the rally with seventeen points, but I'll certainly take them! We now have to stay humble and keep working hard to try and improve."
The Monte Carlo Rally, the oldest and most famous rally in the world, which begins and ends in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is the opening round of the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship.
