Former senior police officer prosecuted
Da Nang (VNA) - Central Da Nang city's investigation police agency has sent on a decision to prosecute a former senior police officer on the charge of "abusing democratic freedom rights to infringe upon the interests of the State, the legitimate rights and interests of organisations and individuals."
The prosecution was imposed on Major General Tran Van Thanh, former chief inspector
at the Ministry of Public Security, under Clause 1, Article 258 of the Penal Code,
said Duong Canh Mai, head of the municipal police office.
The prosecution decision was issued by the city's police on Feb. 20 and then
approved by the Da Nang People's Procuracy.
The decision came at the request of the Da Nang People's Court at a first-instance
trial of three other police officers on the same charge on Sept. 23, 2008.
These officers included Da Nang's police Major Dinh Cong Sat, police Lieutenant
Colonel Duong Tien, former head of the Ho Chi Minh People's Police newspaper's
representative office in Hanoi, and Nguyen Phi Duy Linh.-Enditem
