Aqazadeh: Bushehr power plant to start generating electricity soon
Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA - Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Agency Reza Aqazadeh said the Bushehr power plant will start electricity-generating operations soon after the preliminary tests produce positive results.
He made the remarks while touring the site of the power plant
accompanied by head of Russia?s Rosatom State Atomic Corporation
Sergei Kiriyenko.
The officials are in this port city by the Persian Gulf in southern
Iran to inaugurate the test-operation of the atomic power plant.
Aqazadeh said one of Iranian nation?s biggest dreams will be
materialized in a very short time once the power plant starts
generating electricity.
Expressing hope that the later phases of the power plant?s development
plan will be implemented in a more rapid pace, he voiced satisfaction
over the pace of the project in the past few months and said it would
not be long before the power plant joined the national circuit after
the initial tests proved positive.
Kiriyenko, too, expressed satisfaction over the process of affairs in
the power plant and said the construction of the power plant was in
its very final phases.
While inspecting the main switching room, Aqazadeh and Kiriyenko
signed a report on the development procedure of the power plant.
A large number of both local and foreign correspondents,
photojournalists and media people have also gathered at the site of
the power plant to cover the story of its test-inauguration.
The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has the capacity of producing one
thousand mega watts of electricity and its reactor uses light water.
The plant is located 15 kilometers south of the port city of Bushehr
and its building started in 1974 by a German company but it did not
continue the work after the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979. A
Russian Company named "Atomstroyexport" signed a contract to complete
the project in 1995.
