BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - NATO's military committee, the highest military body in the alliance, will discuss the "difficult" security environment in the Middle East and the role of NATO in stabilizing the region at a meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on 16 and 17 of this month.
"The meeting at the level of the chiefs of staff will discuss the efforts of the international coalition to defeat Daesh and the role of NATO in Iraq in 2018," NATO said in a statement.
The statement added, "The first session of the meeting will focus on countries in southern Europe and will include a report on the Middle East and North Africa,"
"The meeting will pave the way for further discussions on stabilization initiatives, the fight against terrorism and the international coalition to defeat Daesh (ISIS) and training the Iraqi forces and review the status of the NATO mission in Afghanistan,"
According to the statement, "the meetings will be presided over by the chairman of the military commission, General Peter Pavel."
It is mentioned that the NATO Military Committee meets twice a year at the headquarters of the NATO in Brussels at the level of Chiefs of Staff to discuss NATO operations and missions in addition to meeting once a year in one of the Member States./ End
