Head of Russian State Atomic Corporation arrives in Tehran

Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA - Head of Rosatom State Atomic Corporation of Russia Sergei Kiriyenko
accompanied by a delegation arrived in Tehran early Wednesday.

The Russian delegation was welcomed by Iran's Atomic Energy
Organization official Mohammad Saeedi at the airport.
The Russian delegation included 15 members both from Rosatom and
"Atomstroyexport", the main contractor of the Bushehr Nuclear Power
Plant.
According to the IAEO's spokesman Mohsen Delaviz, the test operation
of the power plant will start in the presence of Reza Aqazadeh, head
of IAEO, and Sergei Kiriyenko on Wednesday.
The two officials after visiting the power plant will attend a joint
press conference.
Rosatom spokesman Sergei Noviykov told IRNA on Tuesday that the exact
date of commissioning Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant will be declared on
Wednesday.
He evaluated cooperation between the corporation and Iran 'positive'
and expressed hope for its continuation in the future.
The spokesman also said that the Russian experts will be in Bushehr to
help operation cycle for one more year upon bilateral agreement with
Iran.
The power plant has the capacity of producing one thousand mega watts
of electricity and its reactor uses light water.
It is located 15 kilometers south of Bushehr city and its building
started in 1974 by a German company but they did not continue the work
after the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979.
In 1995 a Russian Company named " Atomstroyexport" signed a contract
to complete the project.
The plant was to be commissioned in July 1999, but it was postponed
many times.
Following former Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Iran in
2007, initial fuel of the power plant and other equipment started to
be delivered to Iran since December 2007 in eight phases and
consignments.
