NATO colonel: “Azerbaijan is very important ally for NATO”

Baku, November 30, AZERTAC As earlier reported, a group of experts from NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) launched NATO Days in the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. A NATO delegation led by the chief of Staff for Military Partnership, Colonel Alexander Schwab (Canada) will visit the Military College of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Higher Military School named after Heydar Aliyev, as well as Naval Forces of Azerbaijan During the event, officers and cadets of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were presented briefings on "NATO Today", "Azerbaijan-NATO Cooperation", "What Strategic Effect Does NATO Desire", "NATO Maritime Standing Forces", "NATO after Warsaw and NATO Partner Policy & South Caucasus", "Global Cyber Development and NATO’s Reaction". Expressing his impressions on the NATO Days in Azerbaijan, the chief of Staff for Military Partnership, Colonel Alexander Schwab said ‘Azerbaijan is very important partner for the Alliance”. “Since 1994, we have established many ties with the country. These ties are long-term and are one of our important bounds in the South Caucasus. The Days have been held for 9 years and we are pleased with the results. We highly estimate the country’s cooperation with the NATO missions and its operations in many aspects. Azerbaijan demonstrated that it is a reliable and important participant of many NATO programs. Your country’s militaries actively take part at the workshops and joint exercises the Alliance hold in numerous countries. The military cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO is very broad.” He said that Azerbaijan actively participates in educational and training cooperation activity organized by NATO and joint effective programs for specialists: "We are pleased to see experts are represented at NATO Headquarter. The main element of cooperation is communication.” He added that the main purpose of his visit to Azerbaijan is to review successfully cooperated areas. The regional officer of NATO Military Partnership Division, Lieutenant-Colonel Bahadir Uçar said the most important question at this event will be exchange of views on the carried out work. “These views are very useful both for NATO, and Azerbaijan. Such events create good ground for our mutual relations.” Mayor Ionel Boca, Allied Joint Force Command officer at Brunssum said that Azerbaijan supports peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan with its military troops. It has started with mission by International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) which is called now Resolute Support Mission. NATO acclaims Azerbaijan’s support to operations in Afghanistan and its professionalism in the mission.”
