Yemeni farmers root out Qat tree
DHAMAR, Feb. 22 (Saba)- Governor of Dhamar Yahya al-Amri along with the governorate's officials launched on Sunday the process of rooting out Qat trees in Jahran area.
Governor al-Amri and farmers in the area participated in the process of rooting out
the tree from a number of agricultural fields with an estimated area of hectare.
This process has come for responding to President Saleh's directives to farmers in
Jahran farmers to limit growing Qat tree and take care of agricultural crops.
The governor issued directives to the Company of Producing Improved Potato Seeds and
the Corporation of Producing Improved Seeds to provide and supply farmers with all
their needs of these seeds that will replace Qat trees. He highlighted voluntary
work of farmers for rooting out the tree.
For his part, Director of Jahran District Ahmad al-Masqari told Saba that the
farmers in Waseta area have responded to the president call for making Jahran
agricultural field free of Qat tree and taking care of growing food crops.
