Yemen investigates seven Saudi terrorists
SANA'A, Feb. 18 (Saba) - Authorities are investigating a
seven-member terrorist network that was arrested in one of the raids
the security forces launched in several areas at the border with
Saudi Arabia last week.
Initial investigations with the cell revealed its members received
orders from al-Qaeda leadership to infiltrate into Yemen and commit
terrorist attacks on foreign targets and tourist facilities.
The seven members also said they aimed to train new affiliates in
the country.
All the members are Saudi nationals who received trainings in the
kingdom in the use of various weapons.
Recently Yemen and Saudi Arabia have boosted security cooperation
and coordination at the shared border aiming to prevent the
infiltration of any al-Qaeda terrorists after an al-Qaeda new
leadership was appointed.
The Interior ministry has recently announced it arrested over 60
wanted criminals during January and February and over 6000 during
the last year. But most of the arrests have not been linked to
terrorism.
Authorities say about 4000 of the arrested are wanted on security
charges including killings and banditry.
