Long Tan diggers closer to recognition

Diggers who fought in Vietnam's Battle of Long Tan are a step closer to being
recognised with the government announcing an inquiry into official acknowledgment
for the soldiers.
While the US handed Australian soldiers involved in the rubber plantation battle
presidential unit citations, there has never been such recognition from Canberra.
"I am pleased that the Defence Honours and Awards Tribunal will inquire into
unresolved recognition for the Battle of Long Tan," Parliamentary Secretary for
Defence Support Mike Kelly said in a statement on Wednesday.
The government has asked for submissions to the inquiry before March 23.
"Many people have written to me concerning unresolved recognition issues for the
Battle of Long Tan and I would encourage them to now take advantage of this
opportunity to make a submission," Dr Kelly said.
