Russia to explore Persian Gulf security structure in cooperation with Iran

Moscow, Feb 14, IRNA - Russia will explore the theory of the collective security in the
Persian Gulf region in cooperation with Iran and other regional
countries.

A top Russian Foreign Ministry official, Alexander Zasypkin, said
Moscow was against the notion of the supremacy of one single power in
the Persian Gulf, noting the Russian Foreign Minsiter Sergei Lavrov
will discuss the issue with regional officials during his trip to the
Middle East next week.

He said Russia believed security in the Persian Gulf will be
established only when all regional countries, instead of a single
power, including Iran as well as Russia and the US play an active role
in materializing it.

During his trip to the Middle East next week, Lavrov will discuss
preparations for the international conference on the Middle East to be
held in Moscow with representatives of Persian Gulf and Middle East
states. Lavrov is due to pay a visit to the region on February 15-19.
