Welcoming Pak's admission created misleading situation: BJP
New Delhi, Feb 13 (PTI) India's main opposition BJP
Friday accused the UPA government of creating a misleading
situation after External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee
welcomed Pakistan's recent response to Mumbai dossier.
"The response, which Mukherjee has given has created a
misleading situation," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general
secretary Ananth Kumar said.
Mukherjee earlier said in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of
Parliament), "Pakistan authorities have admitted that elements
in Pakistan were involved in the terrorist attacks on
Mumbai... This is a positive development."
The BJP leader, however, said Pakistan should be given a
warning that they hand over the terrorists to India.
India should not take efforts to increase people to
people contact with Pakistan till then, Kumar added.
He also criticised the UPA's policy towards Pakistan,
saying that the world opinion was totally with India when the
Kargil war happened during the Atal Behari Vajpayee regime.
Party spokesperson Shahnawaj Hussain also dubbed
Mukherjee's statement as "soft", saying BJP does not consider
Pakistan's admission of its citizens' role in the Mumbai
terror strike as a big achievement for the government here.
"I have heard Pranab Mukherjee's statement. What he said
today is just the opposite of what he has been saying for the
last three months...a completely soft statement. India should
be tough on this matter," BJP leader Shahnawaj Hussain said.
"BJP is not very enthusiastic over Pakistan admitting its
involvement in the terror strikes in Mumbai. The government is
patting its back over Pakistan's admission that terrorists
involved in Mumbai terror strikes belonged to that country.
That is not a big achievement," he added. PTI AMR
