State President praises Hau Giang growth at five-year anniversary

Hau Giang (VNA) - State President Nguyen Minh Triet has appreciated the Mekong
delta province of Hau Giang 's great efforts to record double-digit economic
growth and improve local people's living conditions after five years of
establishment.

During the past five years, Hau Giang province has recorded an annual average
growth rate of 11.6 percent, and doubled annual per capita income to 10.76 million
VND from 5 million VND in 2004.

The province produces an average 1 million tonnes of commodity rice per year, and
exports 20,000 tonnes of aquatic products every year.

Also during the period, the province built almost 16,100 houses for beneficiaries
of State social policies, poor and Khmer ethnic minority people.

Addressing the province's celebration ceremony held on Feb. 12, President Triet
urged the province to improve its investment environment to court more investors
and enhance cooperation with other localities.

He said Hau Giang should pay more attention to education and training in order to
develop its human resource eligible for the development process.

At the celebration, President Triet presented the province with the Labour Order,
third class, and handed over a sum of 230 billion VND raised by individuals and
enterprises nationwide for the province's poor people and social-welfare
