The Security Council Welcomes The Announcement Of The Liberation Of Mosul, Urges Iraqis To Achieve Reconciliation

BAGHDAD, Iraq (NINA) - The members of the UN Security Council welcomed the liberation of the city of Mosul, and considering it an important event in the global effort to defeat Daesh organization. The Security Council issued a statement saying: "The liberation of Mosul is an important step in the battle to rid Iraq from Daesh." The council urged the Iraqi security forces to liberate the remaining pockets of the territory controlled by Daesh organization, urging to achieve justice for the victims of Daesh and the survivors of its crimes in Iraq and the region. The statement stressed the importance of the commitment of all parties to human rights and international humanitarian law, especially with regard to the protection of the civilians. The Security Council appreciated the continued partnership of the Government of Iraq with the United Nations to restore stability in the liberated areas throughout Iraq and called on all Iraqis to continue to work for the achievement of national reconciliation and the safe and voluntary return of millions of displaced and reintegrate them.
