Seven Countries To Join Tomohon International Flower Festival

MANADO, N Sulawesi, May 30 (Antara) - Representatives of seven countries will participate in the Tomohon International Flower Festival, scheduled to be held from August 8 to 12, Manado's Deputy Mayor Syerly A Sompotan said on Monday. "There will be representatives from Australia, South Korea, Japan, as well as a number of other countries that are members of the ASEAN community that will be joining the yearly flower festival," Sompotan stated in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, on Monday. Other than representatives from a number of friendly countries, there will also be participants from other provinces, sub-districts, and cities in the country, which also include state and provincial-owned enterprises and other related entities. "We estimated around 30 participants, including those from foreign countries, to participate in the flower festival. It has become an annual agenda for the Ministry of Tourism," she noted. Sompotan then expressed her appreciation towards the North Sumatra provincial government and the Tourism Ministry for supporting the event, which includes launching it in Jakarta as well. "The Tomohon International Flower Festival is a result of the joint effort of the city and provincial government and the Tourism Ministry for promoting Tomohon city's tourism potentials at the international stage. The more we promote it, the more foreign tourists will know about the holiday destinations in the city," she reiterated. Sompotan further stated that the city government was still considering two days to carry out the Tournament of Flower as a follow up of the suggestions made by a number of people. "We would like to provide convenient and interesting attractions during the festival, and we hope the citizens would also participate in making the event a success," she concluded.
