Vajpayee showing signs of improvement
New Delhi, Feb 9 (PTI) Former Indian Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee, who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, was
Monday showing signs of improvement with his chest infection
being under control.
"Vajpayee is in the ICU on ventilatory support. He is
stable and responding to the treatment. He is showing signs of
improvement," Superintendent of AIIMS D K Sharma said in a
statement.
Head of Cardiac Thoracic Vascular Sciences Department of
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Sampath Kumar
earlier told PTI that Vajpayee's lungs were clearing and he
was doing fine.
"The pneumonia is under control with the prognosis being
good. Gradually his oxygenation (amount of oxygen in blood
purified by the lungs) level has shown improvement and there
is no spread of pneumonia," he said.
The 84-year-old leader was admitted to the hospital on
Tuesday last with complaints of fever and chest congestion.
Doctors later found that he was suffering from pneumonia.
Kumar had Sunday said that the former Prime Minister
was making progress and all the basic parameters like his
heart, kidney, liver and blood pressure were normal and his
lungs were recovering. PTI SWT
