Indian PM's stitches removed, leading 'normal' life

New Delhi, Feb 8 (PTI) Indian Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh, who underwent a coronary by-pass surgery a fortnight
back, Sunday had all his stitches removed by doctors who said
that he is now leading a "normal" life and meeting officials.

"His stitches have been opened. Some were removed
yesterday evening while others were removed today at around 11
AM. His condition is alright," the Prime Minister's personal
physician Dr K S Reddy told PTI.

The Prime Minister "is making good progress and is in
good health," a PMO spokesman said after the stitches were
removed by Dr Ramakant Panda at Singh's 7 Race Course
residence.

Panda from Mumbai's Asian Heart Institute (AHI) had
led the team of doctors which performed the successful 11-hour
-long coronary bypass surgery on Singh to overcome multiple
blockages in his heart on January 24 at All India Institute of
Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The 76-year-old Prime Minister "is leading a normal
life and is having normal food. He is allowed to meet his
officials," said Dr Vijay D'silva from AHI who was part of the
operating team.

An X-ray was conducted on the Prime Minister. "X-ray
is necessary for monitoring such patients after almost 15 days
of surgery," D'silva said.

He said that the Prime Minister will also undertake
physiotherapy sessions. PTI SWT
