Netherlands Allocates 1.5 Million Euros For Cooperation With Indonesia
JAKARTA, May 17 (Antara) - The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) will allocate 1.5 million euros to be managed jointly with Indonesian institutions, such as the Educational Funds Management Institution and the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.
"The NWO has decided to allocate 1.5 million euros for a new chapter of Dutch and Indonesian cooperation in the fields of research and science. I am confident that this collaboration will be fruitful in the future," NWO's Executive Board member Wim van den Doel noted in a statement provided by the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and received by Antara here on Tuesday.
UGM Yogyakarta, in collaboration with the Indonesian Academy of Sciences, NWO, and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences are holding the 8th Open Science Meeting (OSM) in Yogyakarta on May 15-17, 2017.
Doel remarked that Indonesia and the Netherlands have a long history of cooperation in science and research development, one of which is the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the Bogor Botanical Gardens in 2017.
In future, cooperation between the two countries will hold greater significance, taking into account the global challenges faced by both countries, Doel said.
"Several problems we see today have a global character. There are many issues we face together, both in the Netherlands and Indonesia, and we can solve the problems by working together. That is why we need to further intensify cooperation between the Netherlands and Indonesia," he added.
The OSM 2017 features several programs, including scientific presentations, key speeches, an innovation exhibition, public debates, workshops, poster presentations, and scientific policy-making sessions.
Themed "Towards Resilient Society," the meeting is being held to gather ideas and take into account various interests for creating and supporting a resilient community.
UGM's Rector, Prof. Dwikorita Karnawati, expressed hope that the event would be able to build strategic collaboration among experts from various fields of science to provide innovative solutions for the progress of society.
"In the past, we may still work with colleagues in our own field. However, today, we need to make innovations in various fields of science to deal with the issues today. I hope various innovations would be formulated in the event to help realize a resilient society, "he added.
