Vajpayee responding to treatment, still on ventilator: Doctors
New Delhi, Feb 8 (PTI) The condition of former Indian
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is admitted at AIIMS
with chest infection, is stable and he is responding to the
treatment, doctors attending him said Sunday.
"His condition is stable. He is still on the ventilator
but he is responding to the treatment," Dr Sampath Kumar, head
of Cardiac Thoracic Vascular Sciences Department of AIIMS,
told PTI.
Scotching rumours about the health of the 84-year-old
former Prime Minister, Kumar said "his condition has not
deteriorated. He has no fever". He is making progress".
Kumar said functioning of his liver and kidney and his
blood pressure are normal.
Asked about the former Prime Minister's respiratory
track infection, Kumar said doctors have given him antibiotics
and they would take two to three days to have their full
effect.
"We will have to wait for a few more days for his full
recovery," he said.
Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS on Tuesday with complaints
of fever and chest congestion. Doctors later found that he was
suffering from pneumonia.
United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia
Gandhi and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee had
separately visited AIIMS Saturday to enquire about the health
of the BJP veteran.
Senior BJP leader L K Advani, who is in Nagpur, had also
spoke over phone to doctors at the hospital. PTI SWT
