Gunung Kidul Revitalizes Trowono Market

GUNUNG KIDUL, Yogyakarta, May 12 (Antara) - The Gunung Kidul district government in the Special Region of Yogyakarta has revamped the infrastructure and facilities of the Trowono traditional market, the largest in the district. Gunung Kidul District Head Badingah remarked here on Thursday that the Trowono traditional market is the hub for both the urban and rural communities' economic development. "As a commitment to the communities, the local government is developing the traditional markets by revitalizing the infrastructure and supporting facilities of Trowono market, so that it can become a place suitable for people to carry out economic activities," Badingah stated. According to Badingah, the Gunung Kidul district government continues to give attention to rural economic development through the renovation of infrastructure and facilities in traditional markets. He expressed hope that the traditional markets in Gunung Kidul would be able to compete with their modern counterparts by conducting trade transactions of local products. "We hope the traditional markets will become viable locations for the local communities' economic activities," he remarked. In the meantime, Head of the Industry and Trade Office of Gunung Kidul Hidayat noted that from year to year, the local government has attempted to improve the existing traditional markets, with the hope that they will soon be able to meet national standards.
