UK scanning technology for New Delhi Railway Station
London, Feb 7 (PTI) As part of stepped up security
measures following the Mumbai attacks, the New Delhi Railway
Station will soon have baggage scanners on the lines of those
at the airports as a British firm has been awarded a contract
to supply the latest scanning machines for the purpose.
Under the contract, Leicestershire-based British security
scanning major 'Image Scan' will supply a large baggage
scanner as well as a portable version of the device to the
Indian authorities, the company announced.
Image Scan chief executive Louise George said the Indian
order was placed after the Mumbai terror attacks, which led to
a review of security across the country.
She told newspersons: "It has helped crystallise the
opportunities and it helped secure this on. I think the Indian
government are going to use New Delhi's railway station as a
showcase of the top security technology."
Image Scan specialises in supplying three-dimensional
X-ray imaging systems which allow packages to be scanned for
suspect devices and weapons. The new orders involve its
Axis-3D X-ray system and its portable FlatScan-TPXi.
George said the company was now looking to build on its
success in India and China, the world's fastest-growing
economies. "We are working hard to see how we can do more out
there," she said.
The company was developed at Nottingham University and
spun out into a business in 1996.
