Four Indian Americans honoured

Houston, Feb 7 (PTI) Four prominent Indian Americans were
honoured for their entrepreneurship and community services by
the Indo American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston
(IACCGH).

Yasmin Wadia was awarded the 'Woman Entrepreneur of the
Year Award', Vibhu Sharma got 'Young Entrepreneur of the Year'
award, Atul Vir was honoured with the 'Entrepreneur of the
Year' award, while the 'Community Service Award' was handed
over to Bangar Reddy. The awards given at IACCGH 10th Annual
Awards Banquet here.

Wadia, founder Chairman of Laser Tissue Weld-ing is a
surgeon. Her company specialises in sutureless laser assisted
tissue welding for human clinical use. She is also the
inventor of the bio material D'AlbuminTM.

Vibhu Sharma, a chemical engineer from Iowa State
University, company Ingenious Inc since 2001 has shown a
revenue growth of 5000 per cent.

Entrepreneur Atul Vir's startup is involved with
importing and marketing energy efficient appliances. Equator
has been three times in the list of Houston 100 Fastest
Growing Companies.

While the community service awardee Bangar Reddy, has
selflessly served the Indian community and the cultural Centre
for years.

The new Consul General of India Sanjiv Arora who was the
Chief guest, attended the banquet with over 400 of Houston's
business and political elite here.

"The presence of the leaders of all major area chambers
of commerce and economic development agencies and a number of
elected officials is a sign the Chamber is doing things
right," said the Chamber's Executive Director, Jagdip
Ahluwalia.

Nobel Laureate Dr Robert Curl who had earlier been
presented the 2008 IACCGH Pinnacle Award at a private ceremony
and the days special Honorees, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett
and Houston Mayor Bill White were recognised for their
extraordinary leadership during Hurricane Ike.

Mayor White spoke about the importance of India as it was
still projecting economic growth under the current global
slowdown.

Congressman Al Green addressed the group and praised the
Chamber on the invaluable service it provided to the
community.
