Vikku, Niladari enthrall Dubai audience

Dubai, Feb 7 (PTI) India's master percussionist Vikku
Vinayakam and rising sitar maestro Niladari Kumar put up a
stunning performance at the "Global Fusion" concert organised
here.

Accompanying them on the stage were the likes of Fazal
Qureshi from India, Fareed Haque from Pakistan, Humayun Sakhi,
the rubaab player from Afghanistan.

Music lovers, including some diplomats, witnessed Friday
the fusion of Indian classical music with jazz and other
western genres.

India's Consul-General in Dubai was among a large number
of Indians who attended the concert.

Organised by Switzerland-based Bank Sarasin-Alpen, the
annual event also showcased the exploits of George Brooks, the
master saxophonist who was also felicitated during the
concert.

Drummer Steve Smith and Swiss pianist Nick Bartsch were
the others who performed alongside the maestros. Vinayakam's
breathless ghattam beats left an indelible mark on the
concert.

The concert had both solo and fusion performances.

For performers as well as patrons, the evening was an
escape from the harsh realities surrounding the city's
residents and beyond.
