India asks UN to ensure Pak ends terror
New Delhi, Feb 6 (PTI) Unhappy over Pakistan's failure
to respond to the dossier of evidence on Mumbai attacks, India
has asked the UN to ensure that Islamabad fulfills all its
commitments to end terrorism emanating from its soil.
India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee,
who met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon here Thursday, shared
evidence about involvement of Pakistan-based elements in the
Mumbai attacks and conveyed to him India's displeasure over
Islamabad's attitude.
"I had a detailed discussion (with Ban) in the context
of the terror attack on Mumbai and the material which we have
given to Pakistan and shared with the entire international
community by sending letters to foreign ministers," Mukherjee
told reporters Friday on the sidelines of a function here.
"I requested the UN Secretary General to look into
those aspects and ensure that Pakistan fully implements its
own commitments which it has given to India and the
international community several times," Mukherjee said.
Mukherjee informed the UN chief on how 10 heavily
armed Pakistani terrorists came from Karachi via sea to Mumbai
and struck terror there for three days from November 26 last
year. The Indian side also told Ban that it has concrete
evidence to show that the attacks were planned in Pakistan and
conducted by elements based in that country.
The dossier in this regard has been given to Pakistan
a month ago with an expectation that they would act against
the perpetrators.
However, India is upset as Pakistani leaders and
officials have been making statements without officially
conveying the country's response.
Mukherjee also told Ban that Pakistan is not properly
implementing the UN Security Council resolution banning
Jamaat-ud-Dawa, front outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba which was
responsible for the Mumbai attacks.
Ban, who was in Pakistan two days back and held talks
with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza
Gilani, told Mukherjee about his discussions with them.
In Islamabad, Ban told Pakistan to conduct a "full
investigation" into the Mumbai attacks and cooperate with
India in bringing the perpetrators of the incident to justice.
Mukherjee reached out to Ban amid preparations by
India to approach a UN Committee on Terrorism with a proposal
for proscribing more Pakistan-based terror outfits and
entities like Jaish-e-Mohammad and its chief Masood Azhar. PTI
