Muhammadiyah University To Open British Corner

MALANG, E Java, April 27 (Antara) - The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) in East Java province will open a British Corner in the near future to strengthen cooperation between the educational institution with the UK. "In the near future we will soon send a submission letter to open this British Corner. The British Embassy (envoy) has visited the UMM, so we just have to finalize the concept," UMM's Rector Fauzan said here, Wednesday. In addition to the opening of the British Corner, he added, the UMM also initiated cooperation with the British government in other fields, such as research, student exchange, Islamic studies, and graduate programs. Fauzan said the UK government is very interested in the concept of Islamic studies developed in Indonesia, especially at the UMM. "In the view of the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Moazzam Malik, Indonesia is a representation of the world's Muslims because they are friendly to diversity, and capable of living in diversity, and certainly able to minimize radicalism," he explained. During this time, the cooperation between the UMM and the UK is only in the field of English learning. "For further cooperation, we will invite the ambassador again to sign a memorandum of understanding," he said. Meanwhile, Ambassador Moazzam Malik said Britain and Indonesia have made friendly relations in the field of English learning. "The rectors of 15 Muhammadiyah universities across Indonesia will visit the UK to establish a more real and deeper partnership with UK's top universities," Malik added.
