26/11: Kasab's DNA samples match those on life jacket in Kuber

Mumbai, Feb 5 (PTI) Adding to the evidence that the 26/11
attackers travelled by 'MV Kuber', DNA samples drawn from
Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist captured alive, has matched
with imprints on a lifejacket found on the fishing trawler
that brought the gunmen to India's financial capital Mumbai.

"The sweat analysis from a lifejacket found on the Kuber
matched with the DNA samples of Kasab," a top forensic
official told PTI Thursday generating evidence that could be
vital for Indian investigators.

Investigators said Kasab and nine others boarded the
Gujarat-based fishing vessel 'MV Kuber' in international
waters and set sail to come within a few nautical miles off
Mumbai.

After launching a dinghy to sail to Mumbai, one of the
terrorists killed the captain of the vessel Ajay Singh
Solanki.

The police later found the vessel drifting off the
Indian coast and discovered a satellite phone, Global
Positioning System and rations allegedly manufactured in
Pakistan.

DNA analysis of another five terrorists involved in
the carnage was being conducted in the Kalina Forensic Science
Laboratory and the results will be known shortly, he said.

Earlier, the FSL had confirmed the use of the explosive
RDX in the two taxi bombs that exploded at Vile Parle and
Mazgaon on November 26.

The police had said the bombs were placed by the
terrorists in the taxis after boarding them in south Mumbai.

Kasab along with his accomplice Ismail Khan were
involved in attacking commuters at the historic Chhatrapati
Shivaji rail terminus, the Cama and Albless Hospital and
ambushed a police vehicle killing three senior officials
including ATS chief Hemant Karkare.

The terrorist was nabbed near the Girgaum chowpatty by
the police on the night of November 26 and has since been in
police custody.

Kasab, allegedly a resident of Faridkot in Pakistan,
has been booked in 12 cases by the police. He is presently in
police custody till February 13 in a case regarding the murder
of the captain of MV Kuber. PTI AG
