Yemen starts procedures to receive Yemeni detainees in Guantanamo

SANA'A, Feb. 05 (Saba) - Yemen has started a number of procedures to tackle the
satiations of the Yemeni individuals detained in Guantanamo bay, particularly after
the US President Barack Obama's decision to shut the jail.

Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi made the statement on Wednesday to the state-run
26sep.net, confirming that Yemen rejects the extradition of its detained citizens to
any other party.

He emphasized that Yemen "is still sticking to its attitude of receiving its
individuals, 94 detainees, from the Guantanamo jail", affirming that the government
is waiting to the new U.S. administration's response.

Al-Qirbi downplayed the importance of reports on new form of Al-Qaeda in what is
called "Arab island".The Yemeni and Saudi security authorities are aware of the
presence of these elements in Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the region, al-Qirbi said,
assuring that they are under surveillance, according to the source.

Speaking on the situation in Palestine, al-Qirbi said that the new Yemeni initiative
is based on the previous initiatives aims to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation
under the sponsorship of Egypt, Syria and Turkey.
