Iran puts Omid data-processing satellite into orbit
Tehran, Feb 3, IRNA - Iran launched Omid data-processing national satellite on Monday night.
The launching of the satellite, which was done upon an order by Iran?s
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, coincides with the 30th anniversary of
the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
The satellite was launched using Safir-2 rocket and was successfully
set into orbit.
Omid data-processing satellite project was launched upon the
guidelines of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah
Seyed Ali Khamenei on developing national strategic technologies in
line with the Software Movement underway by Iranian universities.
The project started in March 2005 at ?Saa Iran? industries as the
first practical step toward acquiring national space technology.
Its main objective is to prepare the grounds for promoting national
space industry in Iran.
The project?s experts focused on manufacturing the equipment and
helping develop potentials of the domestic companies to carry out such
projects.
