Indonesia Urges Unity Among Muslim Countries To Face Israeli Occupation
TEHRAN, Iran, Feb 23 (Antara) - Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republic of Indonesia, Agus Hermanto, urged for unity and harmony among Muslim countries around the world in the face of the ongoing Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
The call was made while delivering a speech on the 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian People's Struggle held in Tehran, Iran, on Wednesday.
"Unity and harmony also applies to the reconciliation of factions in Palestine, especially Fatah and Hamas. Disintegration will only work in Israel's favor," Agus affirmed in the presence of the 80 participating countries and about 700 foreign guests.
Agus stressed that Muslims must believe that unity is the single largest source of force to overcome the arrogance and conceitedness of Israel.
"Let us move towards 'All Together for Palestine'," he said, hoping that the conference can be fruitful to explore ideas and insights for the establishment of a sovereign Palestine and its capital city, Al-Quds al-Sharif.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Indonesia, Mohammad Saleh, who also delivered a speech at the conference, asserted that 90 percent of more than 200 million Indonesian people are Muslim and support anti-colonialism.
Indonesia has seven presidents, who never changed their stance on the support for the Palestinian struggle for independence and to establish a Palestinian state, the Chairman of the Council said, adding that Indonesia is expecting full membership of Palestine in the United Nations (UN).
Since the beginning of the independence of Indonesia, the country, with the largest Muslim population in the world, rejects the establishment of Israel in 1948, Mohammad Saleh asserted.
