House Speaker Meets Human Rights Watch's Delegation

BAGHDAD / NINA / Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jubouri confirmed that the Parliament is interested in finding solutions that help improving the human rights situation in the country.
He said during a meeting with a delegation from the Organization of Human Rights Watch, according to a statement from his office today, "The House of Representatives is keen to speed up the enactment of laws that would raise the reality of human rights and anti- incitement letters of violence and terrorism."
The statement said the two sides discussed human rights record in Iraq in all its aspects and ways to address the violations that permeate this file and mechanisms of documenting abuses in prisons and detention centers."
On the file of the detainees, al-Jubouri stressed that "the parliament is interested in finding solutions that will help determine the fate of the detainees and reduce violations practiced against them in detention centers and prisons," pointing to "the importance that the Human Rights Commission has a greater role and contribute effectively in diagnosing violations, if found, and to be submitted to parliament. "
