Iran?s chess grand master defeats Russian Karpov

Tehran, Jan 29, IRNA ?
Iran?s chess grand master Ehsan Qaem Maqami defeated Russian and
world chess master Anatoly Karpov here Wednesday in their second round
of play.

Qaem Maqami defeated his Russian rival in 85th move , while Karpov in
his first play with him on Tuesday defeated Qaem Maqami in the 45th
move.
They will continue their third game tomorrow, Thursday, here in Tehran.
Secretary General of Iran?s National Olympic Committee Bahram
Afsharzadeh and Mohammad Mehdi Maddahi head of Iran?s Chess Federation
were watching the second game.
The two chess masters are planned to play 20 rounds from January 27 to
February 2, 2009.
