PGCC urges expansion of economic ties with Iran
Riyadh, Jan 28, IRNA - Secretary General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council Abdul Rahman al-Attiyah on Tuesday called for continued economic cooperation with Iran.
In a meeting with Iran?s Ambassador to Riyadh Mohammad Hosseini, he
condemned the recent Zionist atrocities in the Gaza Strip.
He regretted that the double standard policy of international bodies
regarding the regional developments have led to such an invasion by
the Tel Aviv regime.
Referring to his recent visit to Tehran and his meetings with several
Iranian officials, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, al-Attiyah
said the visit was in line with the expansion of economic relations
between the two sides.
He termed his Tehran visit as very successful.
On Ahmadinejad?s 12-article proposal presented to the Doha Summit in
2007, al-Attiyah said the proposal was reviewed by the council?s
members and is now on the agenda of the council.
For his part, the Iranian envoy reiterated that bilateral talks on
free trade will play a key role in promotion of mutual cooperation
between the two sides.
On the great economic potentials of the regional states, Hosseini
stressed that the Persian Gulf can enjoy the biggest regional market
in the near future through all-out cooperation among the littoral
states.
Lambasting the Zionists' attacks on the innocent Palestinian people in
the Gaza Strip, he emphasized that solidarity of Muslim states and
further regional cooperation made the Zionist regime end its latest
atrocities against the defenseless Palestinians in Gaza.
