Foreign Minister Meets His Egyptian Counterpart

BAGHDAD / NINA / Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said the time has come to Iraq and Egypt to take their role in the coordination of positions and cooperation in the overall issues in the region and to address the attempts to split the Arab ranks and support stability in the region. Jaafari, during a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry at the conclusion of his visit to Cairo, according to a Foreign Ministry statement today, confirmed the need to facilitate the granting of visas procedures for Iraqis wishing to visit Egypt, as well as overcome the obstacles facing the Iraqi community and Iraqi students in Egyptian universities because of its great importance to deepening bilateral relations and prospects of cooperation in various fields. " He also stressed "the need to accelerate in the second meeting of the Iraqi-Egyptian Joint Committee and increase the volume of trade and investment between the two countries. For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed continuing his country's support for Iraq in all fields. The statement quoted him as saying: that many of the interests combine Iraq and Egypt, and exchange visits between the officials of both countries would be activated in order to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples, and holding the meeting of the Joint Commission will contribute to the coordination between the concerned authorities between Baghdad and Cairo in various fields. He pointed to "the possibility of adopting a new mechanism by the security services of both countries, and also facilitate granting visa procedures for Iraqis wishing to visit Egypt, as well as provide the necessary supplies for the Iraqi community and Iraqi students studying in Egypt in cooperation with the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo During the meeting, according to the statement they discussed the relations between the two countries and ways of strengthening them to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples and highlighted the challenges facing the region. / End
