Complaint against 'Slumdog Millionaire': Court orders probe
Mumbai, Jan 27 (PTI) A local court here in India's
western state of Maharashtra Tuesday directed the city police
to probe into the complaint filed against Oscar nominated
movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' and submit its report by February
25.
The complaint, filed against the movie and its director
Danny Boyle on January 23 by social activist Nicholas Almeida,
said that the title is "defamatory" and "completely against
society", and demanded a change in the word 'Slumdog'.
According to the complainant, the movie is damaging the
minds of children living in slums and "creating hatred against
poor slum-dwellers in the minds of established and capitalist
people."
Directing the police to investigate and file a report
stating if the movie hurts the sentiments of slum-dwellers,
the Andheri metropolitan magistrate Tuesday issued notices to
Boyle, producer of the movie Christian Colson and distributors
