Improved Indo-Pak relation will help JK: Omar

Jammu, Jan 26 (PTI) Underlining that incidents like
Mumbai terror carnage had a direct impact on India's northern
state of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah
Monday hoped that the Indo-Pak relation improved and the
entire region witnessed peace and development.

"When such incidents take places, they impact Jammu and
Kashmir directly," he said referring to the Mumbai attacks and
the strained relation between India and Pakistan.

However, Abdullah, in his republic day message to the
people, maintained that "the region will witness peace and
development with the improvement in relation between the two
countries".

The Chief Minister, said it was his dream to make the
state a developed and prosperous state and sought everyone's
cooperation to realise this vision.

Promising a responsive, people-friendly and accountable
administration, Abdullah said youth were the greatest treasure
of any nation and it was imperative that this human resource
was properly channelised.

Noting he was fully aware of the problems of the youth as
he himself was young, he said the main problem that the state
was confronting was unemployment.

"The government is taking quick steps to fill up all the
vacancies in the government sector, yet this is not the
ultimate solution to tackle unemployment, because there are
limited opportunities in the government sector.

"We have to think ahead of it and involve private sector
in the creation of job opportunities."

Asking people for their cooperation, he said: "You are
aware that Jammu and Kashmir has passed through a difficult
phase and violence which not only caused irreparable loss of
life and property but also destroyed the economy of the
state," and added the situation had now improved to a great
extent due to contribution of the people, army and security
forces.

Abdullah said it would be his endeavour to take all
sections of people along. "I have great faith in democracy and
I want to carry opposition along, as in a democratic set up a
positive opposition is a must." PTI
